Commemorative coins of the Greatest Generation will be available for purchase from the United States Mint beginning on February 29.

Washington— On February 29, 2024, at 12:00 EST, the US Mint will begin taking preorders for Greatest Generation Commemorative Coin Program goods. Shipping should commence in early April.

The Greatest Generation Commemorative Coin Act, Public Law 117-162, authorized this initiative to honor the National World War II Memorial and the duty and selflessness of American servicemen and women during WWII.

Included in the scheme, the public legislation mandates that the Mint create $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half dollar clad coins. See below for product details, prices, and minimum order quantities. To create a REMIND ME reminder, go to the Greatest Generation Commemorative Coin - US Mint Catalog Online.

Gold product prices are based on the Mint's Pricing of Numismatic Gold, Commemorative Gold, and Platinum Products table. After 3:00 pm EST on March 29, 2024, standard sales prices will apply. For the first 24 hours, households can purchase one gold choice and one three-coin proof set.

Ventris C. Gibson, Mint Director, signed 250 COAs for the 2024 Greatest Generation Three-Coin Proof Set. These individually signed COAs will be randomly put into unmarked sets and fulfilled during delivery. When sales start at noon on February 29, preorder your set and hope to win.

“These coins honor the unwavering commitment, achievements, and sacrifices of all Americans who served during World War II,” stated Director Gibson. “For millions of Americans, the National World War II Memorial provides a rare glimpse into the past—a physical reminder of American soldiers and civilians' World War II service and dedication.”

“The World War II Memorial recognizes the tremendous sacrifices made by our Greatest Generation,” stated bill sponsor Senator Mike Rounds. “They put their lives on hold to serve in many defence roles. Both at home and abroad, their selflessness shaped future generations. We'll recognize WWII's bravest with Greatest Generation Commemorative Coins.

“At the heart of our nation’s capital, the National World War II Memorial stands as an enduring testament to the patriots of America’s Greatest Generation whose selfless courage secured the victory of Liberty in the 20th century,” said bill sponsor Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. “The Greatest Generation Commemorative Coins minted this year honor those who fought and sacrificed while fortifying the sacred national shrine that salutes their legacies.”

The non-profit Friends of the National World War II Memorial is authorized to receive $35 for each $5 gold coin sold, $10 for each silver dollar sold, and $5 for each half dollar sold, totaling $50 for each three-coin set sold, to support the National Park Service in maintaining and repairing the memorial and for educational and commemorative programs.

“The Greatest Generation Commemorative Coins honor our World War II heroes and mark the 20th anniversary of the World War II Memorial's dedication. According to Jane Droppa, Chair of Friends of the National World War II Memorial, all Americans should have a coin in remembrance or honor of a loved one who participated in this momentous fight. We want these coins to be a meaningful way for people to tell the incredible experiences of those who helped millions of people gain freedom during the worst battle in history.
